report:
BOOTHTOWN TERRIERS 4 OVENDEN’A’ 12
SCORER
DALE BROWN 1 TRY
Ovenden came out on top in this local derby in a game fiercely fought but short in quality.
Boothtown started well with Dave Love and Trent Ashton driving well and Jamie Love dumping former Terrier Scott Lindsey on his bum with a ferocious tackle that set the tone of the game.
Boothtown then applied pressure and deservedly took the lead, after good work from Ben Mallas, Trent Ashton was held short and Dale Brown spun out of the tackle to score and Terriers led 4-0.
With the game then getting scrappy Ovenden applied the pressure and scored a converted try to take the lead which they held at the break 4-6.
In a poor second half Ovenden pushed Boothtown back and limited their scoring chances and scored a try of their own to make it 4-10 and it would have been worse but for try saving tackles from Simon Farrar and Jamie Love.
Ovenden sealed the points with a late penalty in a game Boothtown could and should have won.
