November 2009
Well a lot has happened since my last column although unfortunately we are still without a win despite some good performances at home although our away form is still leaving something to be desired. We had our now annual race night at the dutchman which raised a few pennies for the club coffers heres hoping everyone with xmas draw tickets sells up to raise some more and hopefully there will be a good turnout on the night which is normally good fun sat 9th of december is the date at the flying dutchman pub in boothtown.
On to the team and our on field performances at home have really started to improve and we are probably a tad unlucky to be without a league win after our games with Dudley hill and littleborough late comebacks in both games proving to be in vain and poor spells ten minutes before half time ultimately proving our downfall. Also this month came arguably our best performance for a couple of seasons when we just lost out to division higher Brighouse in the fee cup dominating the game for 65 minutes only to lose out and the team being applauded from the field by our supporters after a wonderful effort and it was great to see ex coach Steve Griffiths and his wife karen at the game with karen firmly behind the terriers and steve with split loyalties due to his Brighouse connections.
The week after we were disappointing in defeat at Sharlston in horrendous conditions but we hit the town afterwards on a team bonding exercise and a great night was had by all despite England getting beaten quite heavily by the aussies showing we are still way behind them. The game was watched in the Plummet Line and after that we moved on to the cell where Craig Knowles livened up proceedings with his usual antics on the dancefloor ably assisted by dale brown and his dodgy dancing and assistant coach simon farrar with even the Guvnor getting in on the act and rolling back the years on the dancefloor.
This got everyone going and by the time we hit the barracuda almost everyone was in on the act having a great time taking over most of the dancefloor before ending the evening in yates although a small number went on to liquid the night was a huge success roll on the 27th of december which should be another top day.Well as i draw to a close for this month the team has been preparing for the local derby with Ovenden at home this weekend where hopefully we can get our elusive first victory it wont be easy as despite them being below us in the table and struggling for players they normally turn up with huggings of players looking for a bit of boothtown bashing lets hope for the last laugh until next month.
Keep the faith Rosco
October 2009
Well with this being my first column for the website it may take me a few weeks to get into all this but here goes. Our season really started with the annual trip to wembley organised by the mr very funny ian jackson and as usual this was a huge success with plenty of fun had by all and of course a substantial amount of ale supped boosting the coffers of the london pubs and our wonderful digs otherwise known as the generator.
We set off on the friday all 16 of us dressed in pink for the day + night a couple of the lads seem to rather enjoy dressing as women Jacko and Charlie you have been named all in all friday was good and we had sum great banter with around 50 warrington fans in the evening at a boozer near the digs somehow that evening craig stewart (gimp) decided to have an arguement with a pavement and looked rather worse for wear the next day.
Also the antics of 2 of our players ensured that they were both 50 quid lighter for smoking in their rooms well done to Jacko (again) and Browny.Anyway saturday came and went as we dressed as cavemen making the the bbc website and the local paper having a great time on wembley way the game was a bit drab although warrington where worthy winners we headed back on to the digs and out for another night on the tiles where we had another first yours truly ending up in hospital after over indulging with assistant coach faz both of us trying to drink the pub out of jack daniels so the weekend was good but a bit blurry for me lol.On to the season and we have had a poor start although the last 2 games have shown promising signs the fact is we are not fit enough and need to train and work harder if we are to improve.
A big terriers welcome to our new signings young danny richardson and liam koval, dave featherstone and damien hughes who have all shown good signs and to returning duo darren (i dont drink much)dewhirst and jason (spit my dummy out) dodd only joking guys anyway heres hoping for much improvement in the next few weeks until next time............
