Boothtown
got their season off to
a flyer with a good win
against Thornhill. New
signings ex Illingworth
pair Gary Lee and Mark
Sutcliffe and ex Ovenden
pair Gareth Cox and Kris
Robinson were joined by
Craig Knowles from St
Joseph in a new look side
and all impressed.
Paul
Rawson kicked an early
penalty before Nev Graham
put Trent Ashton in at
the corner and Paul Rawson's
towering conversion gave
Boothtown an early 8-0
lead. With Craig Knowles
showing up well in defence
Boothtown were dominant
in attack and Kris Robinson
increased the lead with
a try and Paul Rawson
once again converted.
The barnstorming Trent
Ashton scored his second
try to make it 18-0 before
coach Mick Dewhirst introduced
Dave Love and his two
sons Steve and Jamie as
subs with Dad Dave having
a try disallowed just
before half time.
In
the second half Thornhill
got back in the game with
two tries to reduce the
Terriers lead to 18-10.
Terriers then tightened
up the defence with Simon
Jevons, Nev Graham and
Trent Ashton to the fore
and from a Gary Lee pass
Dave Love stormed over
and with Paul Rawson tagging
on the conversion Boothtown's
nerves settled with a
24-10 lead. Paul Rawson
made sure of the points
with a try and also kicked
a last minute penalty
for a very impressive
win.
