Boothtown
lost to division four
side Wortley Dragons,
who
played the better rugby
and deserved
the win despite a gallant
fightback
from the Terriers.
Playing down the slope
in the
first
half, Boothtown couldn't
breech
the
home defence and after
a 20 minute
stalemate Wortley opened
the scoring
with a try.
They
soon doubled
the
lead with a lucky
try, Jason Dodd closed
down
the
Wortley kicker and
when he passed the
ball on to the second
kicker
he miskicked the ball
and
it spun in the air, the
bounce then took it to
a Wortley player and
they spun the ball
wide with the help of
at least
one
forward pass to score
in the corner. Jason
Dodd and Paddy Dolan
made inroads into the
defence but Wortley
held out and then
increased the lead to
18-0 with another try
before
half
time.
Early
in the
second half Wortley scored
two
more
tries to threaten
to completely run away
with the
game at 30-0 but somehow
Terriers
found some form and
came storming back at
Wortley,
Ben
Mallas scored from close
range
and
Chris Metcalf made
a blockbusting run through
the defence to score,
Josh Goodall converted
both.
Wortley
got another try but Boothtown's
big men then scored when
Martin Loughrey used
his weight to good effect
with
his
first ever try, converted
by
Josh
Goodall and the unretired
Trent
Ashton
bulldozed his way over.
