Boothtown
took the points
in this local
derby which was played
in wintery
weather, with wind and
rain the order of the
day and it's
a credit to both teams
for playing in those atrocious
conditions.
Terriers were quickly
out of the blocks with
Daz Dewhirst
scoring an early brace
of tries, the
first after Luke Brown
sent Jason
Dodd away and his
pass put him in and the
second from a Dean Robertshaw
pass, in the
blustery conditions both
kicks were
missed from wide out
but Terriers had a handy
8-0 lead.
Ovenden
then
put Boothtown under
pressure and Jason Dodd
had to pull off a try
saving tackle but
Ovenden did score with
Scott Allen
going in under the
posts to pull six points
back. On
the
stroke of half time
Luke Brown found
Nev Graham and he
gave the scoring pass
for Daz
Dewhirst to complete
his hat trick and
make the score 12-6
at half time.
With
the wind and rain getting
worse
Boothtown were the
first to score in
the second half with
Ryan
Barnes
sending Paul Kemp away
from
60 yards
and he beat the fullback
and outran
the defence for a
great try, Simon Farrar
converted
to
stretch the lead to
18-6. In the worsening
conditions
Simon Farrar slotted
over
a penalty before Ovenden
scored
a try
and reduced the arrears
to ten
points.
Both
teams
were making mistakes
due
to
the conditions but
Andy Charlesworth found
space
but was hauled down
just
short
but he made up for
that with a sublime
pass for Luke
Brown to dive in at
the corner for
a last minute try.
These two points
will be so precious
in
Boothtown's fight
against
relegation.
