Boothtown
once again
came away without
the points but showed
lots of character
in a battling
show against a big Emley
side despite
fielding an under strength
side. In
the
cold and with frequent
snow showers
Emley started strongly
and opened
up a 12 point lead inside
ten minutes
with two powerful
tries, but then Terriers
got in the
game and started to put
in the tackles with Ryan
Barnes and Paul Rawson
leading from
the front and Andy charlesworth
putting in a spectacular
flying tackle.
Midway
through the half
Terriers got their first
try after
good work from Ryan Barnes
and
Dean Robertshaw, Ben
Mallas spun in the tackle
to
score and Paul Rawson
converted
to
pull six points back.
Two more
Emley tries followed
before dad
Andy Charlesworth
fed son Luke who joyfully
dived
in
at the corner for a
well worked try and make
the half time score 22-10.
In
the second half Emley
increased the lead with
a penalty and a try but
Boothtown wouldn't lie
down and after a break
from Luke Brown, Ryan
Barnes threw off the
defenders to score a
well deserved try.
Then
the try of the match,
when Jason Dodd took
the
ball 70 yards from the
try
line
there was nothing
on but he took on the
defence and broke clear
and after side-stepping
the
fullback
and handing off the chasing
defenders he made it
to
the line for a super
score. That brought Boothtown
to within 10 points of
Emley but two further
tries
sealed
an Emley win as the game
ended in a snow blizzard.
