TRENT ASHTON 1 TRY JASON
DODD 1 TRY NEV

RAWSON 2 GOALS
Boothtown
can count themselves
very unlucky after
getting over the line
twice in the second half
and unable
to ground the ball, then
losing the
game after conceding
a late field
goal and penalty. Calder
Valley started
well and
scored the first points
with a converted
try and Boothtown
were on the
back foot as the Valley
forwards
were
running from deep and
dominating the early
play.
They
increased the lead to
ten points with another
try, with Paul Kemp's
try
saving tackle in vain
as a quick
play the ball caught
Terriers napping. Boothtown
found some form and
got back in the game,
Steve Love
took the ball neatly
from a Valley
mistake and after being
tackled
the
ball was swung right
for Trent Ashton to crash
over, Paul Rawson
converted to make the
score 6-10.
The
newly re-signed
Nev
Graham was now prominent
in attack
and
with Trent Ashton, Simon
Jevons
and
Chris Metcalf punching
holes
in
the
Valley defence, Terriers
levelled
at the break with Nev
Graham
scoring in the corner
from a Ben Mallas pass.
In the
second
half Valley scored their
third
try
to
open up a six point lead
but Luke Brown slipped
a neat pass for Jason
Dodd
to run
score and another conversion
from
Paul
Rawson levelled things
up again.
Now
Boothtown were looking
the most likely winners
with
a superb
run from Jason Dodd halted
just short, Luke Brown
being turned on his
back over the line and
Nev Graham
denied a try after also
going
over
the line.
With
five minutes
left
Valley kicked a field
goal
and
with
Boothtown conceding a
penalty from the kick
off, the valley kicker
belted
over
a beauty goal from the
halfway line. Boothtown
had
one
last
assault on the Valley
line but that came to
nothing
and
valley took the points
in
a very
entertaining game. |
